Easter greetings from the racing chaplains

April 10, 2020

It's been a very different Easter this year!

Unable to travel .. unable to spend time with family ... unable to gather at church for the most important days in the Christian calendar. It's great that technology has enabled us to maintain some sense of connection and community despite not being able to meet in person.

It's been a very different Easter carnival as well!
With the Golden Slipper and The Championships run with no crowds and no owners to cheer and to celebrate. Some have commented on how eerie it seems to have such major races with so few people.

Congratulations to the Country & Provincial heat & finalist winners and to all those who've had black type success. These are moments to treasure - even in isolation!

The strong sense I get as I speak with a broad cross-section of racing people is that so far folk are coping fairly well whilst ever racing continues to operate.  People appreciate having a job to go to when so many others don't. And they still get to see their horses every day.

At the same time though, many have expressed concerns that things could become very different if racing has to shut down.  Indeed for some smaller centres and stables that is already a reality.  It's important that we continue to care for one another during these times of increased stress.  The racing fraternity is always at its best in a crisis.

If you or anyone you know is struggling or needs assistance, remember that help is available.  In particular, the racing chaplains are available with a listening ear, and we can also direct people to more specific resources if needed.  And, although we are maintaining social distance like everyone else, we can still attend in person should the need arise. Contact details for our NSW chaplains are listed on the Racing NSW website at the following link:

So stay safe and well, and we wish you all a blessed and peace-filled Easter.

"Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead" (1 Peter 1:3)
