Chaplaincy in the era of COVID-19

Chaplaincy, at its heart, is a ministry of presence. Of literally ‘being there’ for people during times of need. Meeting with people at the track, in cafes, in hospitals or in their homes.

During the Covid-19 restrictions, we have been limited to mostly being ‘present’ with people by non-physical means, such as intensive telephone and on-line support, supplemented by some in-person support when necessary, as well as hospital visitation by ‘proxy’, utilising the existing network of official hospital chaplains (who are still allowed to visit patients in their designated hospital).

Sadly injuries such as trackwork and race falls continue to be a regular occurrence.  ARCC chaplains have worked consistently to ‘be present’ for individuals and families needing help. Regular chaplaincy continues under the ‘new normal’ of COVID-19 as the worst of the epidemic passes and racing in all its forms continues.
