Vale Riharna Thomson

Riharna Thomson was a dedicated track rider and stable hand at Thoroughbred Park racecourse. She was a popular, friendly, young woman – who loved horses and was a keen student of politics.

She passed away this morning in Canberra hospital, surrounded by her family and friends, following a tragic accident during trackwork at the racecourse on Tuesday morning.

The family have asked for privacy at this sad time, but are grateful for the support of the racing community and of Canberra Racing Club and Racing NSW in particular.  It has been of comfort to them to see how deeply Riharna was loved by her friends and co-workers.

Funeral arrangements are yet to be determined but a brief ceremony to honour the memory of Riharna will be held in the Mounting Yard at Thoroughbred Park at 1.00pm on Sunday prior to the first race on Black Opal Stakes Day.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Riharna’ s parents, her brothers and sister, her extended circle of family & friends, and all those at the racecourse who have been deeply affected by this tragedy.
