Congratulations Crewie!

The 2023 winners of the Australian Stud & Stable Staff Awards were announced at the Gold Coast on Wednesday 24th May.

The top award of the night, the “Throughoubred Excellence Award” went to 86 year old stablehand John Brady, better known as “Crewie”, who has dedicated his life to the racing industry and, in particular, to Tulloch Lodge where he first began his career working for Tommy Smith and has continued there ever since.

From mucking out boxes to riding trackwork into his 50’s, Crewie has been involved with some of the best horses in Australian racing history. And to the other staff at the stable, he has been a great source of wisdom, guidance, and inspiration over the years.

Gai Waterhouse said of him: “There can’t be many people in any industry who have worked with such dedication and loyalty as Crewie. My father regarded him as one of the stable’s great assets and so do I.”

Crewie had earlier been annouced as winner of the “Dedication to Racing” Award.

The Australian Stud & Stable Staff Awards aim to highlight the exceptional contributions of those who work behind the scenes in the thoroughbred racing and breeding industry.
